Local Food Systems Internship

Non-Profit Internship: local sustainability organization –Nashua
Social Entrepreneurship/Local Food Systems

Regenerative Roots, a grassroots sustainability non-profit in Nashua, is seeking a local college student to serve as a part-time intern for spring and summer of 2016.
The organization is currently undergoing a re-branding as we grow and prepare to move into a new space (www.regenerativeroots.org). Therefore, we are looking for a hardworking individual who is passionate about using their career to create positive impact in the world. While this is the most important characteristic for which we are looking, we also hope to find an intern with an entrepreneurial spirit, a marketing mindset and an interest in local food movement advocacy and/or farming. What you would be doing

  • Developing, implementing and managing a social media strategy, in alignment with overall marketing campaign
  • Shadowing organizational leaders in completion of operational tasks
  • Researching brainstormed concepts and inputting findings into templates for business writing
  • Assisting with growing operations this summer of our partner farmers, while gaining some basic knowledge of agriculture, in an urban environment
  • Attending meetings with leadership: both weekly Board meetings as well as other sessions with local community leaders
  • Utilizing our project management software –Basecamp- to maintain organizational history and record project developments. This allows for remote work, supporting those who excel as independent workers.
  • If interested, collaborating on diversified fundraising strategy (research, grant writing and crowdfunding).

What you will learn

  • Overall understanding of the emerging field of social entrepreneurship, as an evolution of non-profit operations as well as local food systems issues; with an introduction to organic agriculture and innovations for urban application
  • Strong skills in marketing: social media, brand continuity, network connecting and public relations strategy
  • Strategies in developing a public-private partnerships network for accomplishing the objectives of grassroots initiatives to create social and environmental impact

Currently, this is an unpaid internship. In 2017, we are looking to offer academic credit to interns; however, right now we are limited due to insurance considerations. Therefore, our team intends to ensure we provide the highest level of experiential value possible. We are more than happy to integrate areas of personal interest or academic projects into an individualized curriculum. Intern will serve as an integral member of the team and your unique input will contribute directly to organizational development.

Responsibilities will include serving in the tasting room, leading tours and educating the public about the local grapes, how they are grown, and the types of wine they make, helping in the vineyard, selling at farmers’ markets, participating in wine making, including working on the bottling line.
The intern will gain experience and understanding about all aspects of viticulture (grape growing), enology (wine making) and wine marketing. This is a “fun” business and provides many social opportunities. Our internship program has been an excellent stepping stone to a career in the wine industry.

Position Summary:

The New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) has internships available for interested students for the spring and summer 2016 semesters.

Interns will gain professional experience in a fast-paced environment by working within the different sections of HSEM or alongside the Department of Safety’s Public Information Officer (PIO).

Interns are expected to employ their skills and abilities to contribute to the mission of HSEM. This hands-on program is designed to strengthen fundamental emergency management concepts and develop skills to prepare interns for future employment opportunities.

Qualifications:

Media Power Youth seeks a few creative interns to assist in outreach, marketing, scheduling, tracking and assessment, and enhancing our social media platforms.

You will also have the opportunity to engage youth in interactive workshops where they explore how media and marketing creates and sells powerful messages and influences their choices. For those with media production experience, we also have opportunities for you to work with students and help them learn to use new media technologies to create works of media that promote positive behaviors.

The work is based in Manchester with travel to other NH communities. Tools Training for NH LAKES Stewards Outreach Internship

The New Hampshire Lakes Association (NH LAKES)—the only statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting all of the state’s 1,000 lakes and ponds—is seeking future environmental educators and conservation professionals to join its outreach team during summer 2016.

Through the “Tools Training for NH LAKES Stewards” unpaid volunteer internship program, a team of 4-5 interns will assist with and host training sessions and outreach events throughout the state to provide youth and adults with opportunities to gain knowledge and skills to foster their stewardship of New Hampshire lakes.

NH LAKES implements the following stewardship programs during the summer:

• Lake Host Program: Through this aquatic invasive species education and prevention program, approximately 775 individuals trained as ‘Lake Hosts’ staff 100+ boating access sites throughout the state teaching boaters how to ‘clean, drain and dry’ boats and trailers to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive plants and animals from waterbody to waterbody. • Watershed Warrior Program: This program is designed for youth and their families to “take action” to keep lakes and watersheds healthy. Traveling through the stations of the Watershed Warrior activity circuit, participants experience hands-on fun while learning about lake ecology and simple everyday things that they can do to help keep lakes healthy. At the end of the circuit, participants have the opportunity to become a “Watershed Warrior” by pledging to incorporate at least one lake-friendly practice into their daily routine. • Lakes Congress: During this all-day educational, training, and networking event, lake stewards and other natural resource stewards, lake management professionals, lake-related businesses, and municipal and political leaders exchange information, ideas and experiences and introduce new approaches to help manage and protect our lakes and their watersheds. In addition to the programs listed above, NH LAKES participates in a variety of outreach events hosted by local lake associations and other environmental conservation groups throughout the state.

• Before the start of work, candidates seeking academic credit must provide documentation from the academic institution stating how many credits will be earned, how many hours are required to be worked, start and end dates of work experience, and if the organization is required to fill out an evaluation.

COMPENSATION:
• This is an unpaid volunteer internship position.
• Miles driven to and from events not held at NH LAKES headquarters in Concord will be reimbursed at $0.54/mile in accordance with the organization’s mileage reimbursement policy.

As college students, interns in the program generally work 10 to 20 hours per week during the school semester and/or full-time over breaks or summer developing their business- and client-building skills. Local Food Systems Internship

Non-Profit Internship: local sustainability organization –Nashua
Social Entrepreneurship/Local Food Systems

Regenerative Roots, a grassroots sustainability non-profit in Nashua, is seeking a local college student to serve as a part-time intern for spring and summer of 2016.
The organization is currently undergoing a re-branding as we grow and prepare to move into a new space (www.regenerativeroots.org). Therefore, we are looking for a hardworking individual who is passionate about using their career to create positive impact in the world. While this is the most important characteristic for which we are looking, we also hope to find an intern with an entrepreneurial spirit, a marketing mindset and an interest in local food movement advocacy and/or farming. Those considering a non-profit path are encouraged to apply, as are business majors with strong humanitarian values.

What you would be doing

  • Developing, implementing and managing a social media strategy, in alignment with overall marketing campaign
  • Shadowing organizational leaders in completion of operational tasks
  • Researching brainstormed concepts and inputting findings into templates for business writing
  • Assisting with growing operations this summer of our partner farmers, while gaining some basic knowledge of agriculture, in an urban environment
  • Attending meetings with leadership: both weekly Board meetings as well as other sessions with local community leaders
  • Utilizing our project management software –Basecamp- to maintain organizational history and record project developments. This allows for remote work, supporting those who excel as independent workers.
  • If interested, collaborating on diversified fundraising strategy (research, grant writing and crowdfunding).

What you will learn

  • Overall understanding of the emerging field of social entrepreneurship, as an evolution of non-profit operations as well as local food systems issues; with an introduction to organic agriculture and innovations for urban application
  • Strong skills in marketing: social media, brand continuity, network connecting and public relations strategy
  • Strategies in developing a public-private partnerships network for accomplishing the objectives of grassroots initiatives to create social and environmental impact

Currently, this is an unpaid internship. In 2017, we are looking to offer academic credit to interns; however, right now we are limited due to insurance considerations. Therefore, our team intends to ensure we provide the highest level of experiential value possible. We are more than happy to integrate areas of personal interest or academic projects into an individualized curriculum. Intern will serve as an integral member of the team and your unique input will contribute directly to organizational development.

Those not currently enrolled in an academic program are welcome to email in regards to volunteer opportunities. We have discussed not limiting internship positions to students in the future.
